Submission Details

The work I’m submitting was created solely by me. I have total rights to thematerial and total rights to authorize permission for use of the materials.

Titles

“Considering.” Size: 9.6”x12.” This was originally created working from a model as a watercolor on Arches Paper. When I completed the piece, I created a digital file in Photoshop to establish the repetitive effects I used to enhance
the psychological and intuitive aspects of the finished work.

“Koi Woodcut.” Size: 10”x14.” For a period of time, I became very interested in koi as subject matter. I created this koi image by combining a number of stock photos of koi for the final image. I then used Photoshop filters and enhanced color saturation for the final result.

“Vancouver Sailing Dreams.” Size: 8.6”x14.” This was a work commissioned by a client whose husband loved sailing. The work was drawn entirely using Corel Painter. One of the things I love is the fluidity possible with
Painter and the amazing selection of pressure sensitive brushes that are
available with Painter.

Artist’s Statement

For me, painting is always about color, visual communication and exploring the magical reality of the accidental. My style emphasizes color and shape relationships, textural surfaces, pattern, continual exploration, surprise. I work with conventional media using acrylic on canvas and watercolor on paper. I also work digitally using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. I'm always exploring usual and unusual mark making objects. Or just picking up what’s close by if I feel it will visually reinforce what I want to express. Primarily, I feel the contrasting desires to speak sweetly, yet powerfully, quietly yet boldly, in the realm of visual communication. By using color, shape, spontaneous brushwork, mark makers, imagination and the wonder of surprise and the unexpected, I immerse myself into the process, the evolving moments of creativity and the unabashed resulting joy of what’s shown up.
