General Artist Statement

Among the more meaningful themes that I implement in my art include mental health, LGBT+ issues, the workings of cult-like systems, and the idea of chosen family – and other support structures – who can support each other when others are inadequate. My prior studies in psychology have interested me in the way that cult dynamics – such as bigotry, misinformation, elitism, or isolation – can affect families, causing those around the indoctrinated to feel distrustful, insecure, or outright unsafe around them. However, I am also inspired by the ability for society to create ways to make the world a better place for others, whether by offering systematic support or individual, personal support in a myriad of helpful forms.

Additionally, I am often fascinated by the subjects of mental health and LGBT+ issues and how they interact with these and other negative and positive influences. In fact, personal experiences – including my own and from those around me – and my detail-oriented approach provide substantial insight on issues related both to mental health and to LGBT+ issues in particular. As a result, my experience and my studies alike inspire me to incorporate these subjects into some of my artwork by using an assortment of detailed characters and a variety of scenarios to make them more interesting and memorable.

I am interested in offering a unique perspective on the more meaningful of the subjects that I implement in my works. Negative influences on one’s family can have a substantial impact on their own well-being, whether they are an LGBT+ person or they feel isolated, trapped, or simply misunderstood for other reasons. However, it is possible to find supportive structures, such as chosen family, in order to counteract those negative influences, and in some cases even to eliminate those influences outright. Because I generally perceive issues as problems to be solved, my work is intended to have a positive tone overall, and I hope to offer this optimistic perspective to others in order to inspire them to seek answers and solutions to their own issues.

General Biography

My digital artworks focus on various social issues and themes, such as mental health and the issues that LGBT+ people face. Additional ideas explored in these digital drawings include indirection, the structures of cult-like systems, the ability to overcome the problems that they cause, and the importance of finding support structures. I was born in 1996 in David City, Nebraska, later moving to Greeley, Colorado and working towards an AA in Psychology at Aims Community College, then for a BA in Art Studio: Digital Media at the University of Northern Colorado. I am studying Japanese as a second language and currently live and work in Greeley, Colorado.
